THE Real Estate Developers Association of Singapore (Redas) has announced that incumbent president Simon Cheong has been unanimously re-elected to serve a second two-year term for the period 2009-2010.
Mr Cheong, who is also SC Global chairman, was first elected to the post in 2007. He is very much a ‘war president’, especially as he will now have to see Redas and the property market through a downturn after property prices peaked in 2007.
In a statement released yesterday, Redas said: ‘Members of the committee share members’ concern of the current economic downturn. The association will work closely with the government to come up with new measures that will help to get some traction for the real estate market.’
‘Redas looks forward to continued strong partnership with the government towards a stable and healthy property market in Singapore.’
Also on the Redas committee is City Developments group general manager Chia Ngiang Hong, who serves as the 1st vice-president, and Frasers Centrepoint CEO Lim Ee Seng, who serves as the 2nd vice-president.
Mr Cheong is married and a father of three. He has a BSc in civil engineering and a Master of Business Administration, both from George Washington University.
He has held key positions in real estate banking at Citibank and CS First Boston before setting up SC Global in early 1996.
