Also an author and now, lecturer

MR WILLIAM LIM, 76, is the president of the Architectural Association (AA) Asia, a 100-member grouping that organises forums on architectural discourse in countries like Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and China.

The adjunct professor of Australia’s Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and guest professor of China’s Tianjin University now spends most of his time on the lecture circuit.

He has written more than 10 books on urban Asia. His latest, Asian Alterity, is now on sale in bookshops here.

He graduated from the Architectural Association (AA) London and did his graduate studies at Harvard University.

He was the principal architect at Malayan Architects Co-Partnership from 1960 to 1967, Design Partnership (later renamed DP Architects) from 1967 to 1991, and then William Lim Associates from 1991 to 2002.

Mr Lim currently lectures on a wide range of subjects relating to architecture, urbanism and culture in Asia.

He is married to Lena Lim, 72, who founded South-east Asian bookstore Select Books in 1976 and ran it till she retired in 2004. They have a daughter and a son who are both in their 40s.
