THE Land Transport Authority said yesterday it will award a major rail infrastructure contract to a joint venture between GS Engineering and Construction Corporation of Korea and Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure of Singapore.
The $410.7 million contract is for the design and construction of the main depot for the Downtown Line and its tunnels. It will be the first civil contract awarded for stage two of the line. The depot will be located off Woodlands Road. It will comprise an operations control centre, marshalling, maintenance and other support facilities for stages one and two of the line. Construction is scheduled to start in the current first quarter and to be completed by 2015.
Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure is a local contractor with substantial experience in road and rail projects. GS Engineering and Construction Corporation is now working on the Seoul Subway Line and Goyang Train Depot in Korea. This will be its first construction contract in Singapore.
