Singapore’s main shopping district has officially welcomed its first boutique hotel, Quincy, which marks Far East Organisation’s maiden foray into this market segment.

The 108-room Quincy hotel at Mount Elizabeth Road has been open for just over a month, but it has already managed 76 per cent occupancy in February, despite falling tourist arrivals.

Raphael Saw, director of Hospitality Operations, Far East Hospitality, said: “We have a good mix of business travellers and leisure travellers. We tend to see more business travellers on weekdays and on the weekends, more leisure travellers.”

Other boutique hotels that are redefining travel accommodation in Singapore include The Scarlet at Erskine Road, the New Majestic Hotel at Bukit Pasoh Road and the Naumi Hotel at Seah Street.

These boutique hotels typically have no more than a hundred rooms, few amenities like restaurants and shopping arcades, but they offer personalised services. Room rates at the boutique hotels are usually lower than those in five-star hotels.

As the newest kid on the block, Far East is aiming for a greater share of the business travel market by pegging its rate at just S$208 a night, excluding taxes.

Rooms at Quincy are also complete with free wireless Internet access, which is a draw for business travellers. Moreover, room rates include three meals served at the hotel and a limo pick-up service from the airport.

The boutique hotel is the latest addition in Far East’s stable of 17 hotels and serviced residences in Singapore.
