GLOBAL financial services company Citi yesterday opened an eco-friendly global operations and technology building at Changi Business Park.

The purpose-built 200,000 square foot green hub is a first for Citi in Asia- Pacific. It will accommodate about 2,000 staff and serve various Citi businesses across 40 countries.

The building hosts some of Citi’s major processing units, including its regional service centre for securities and funds administration and regional cash management unit.

In addition, it houses processing centres for wealth management, transaction services operations and data centre services for Citi businesses in the Asia- Pacific and globally.

Citi’s Asia-Pacific head of operations and technology, Andrew Butcher, said: ‘This building accommodates the advanced and robust systems and security necessary for us to consolidate our operations and technology functions under one roof.’

Having been around since the 1980s, Citi in Singapore has grown from five branches in 2005 to more than 850 customer touch points across Singapore, including branches, ATMs and AXS terminals.

Highlighting Citi’s presence in Singapore, Acting Minister for Information, Communication and the Arts Lui Tuck Yew, who officiated at yesterday’s opening ceremony, said Singapore is one of Citi’s largest offshoring centres worldwide, and that more than half of its staff here are employed in high-value middle and back office processes.

‘Citi has brought to Singapore a multitude of business processing and technology expertise and functions, making Singapore one of its key centres of excellence for operations and technology,’ Mr Lui said.

The environmental and energy-saving features incorporated in Citi’s new building won it the platinum green mark award certification – Singapore’s top environment award – from the Building and Construction Authority in May.
