Despite the tourism slump, Singapore’s resort island and tourist destination Sentosa said it’s confident of exceeding its initial target of six million visitors this year.
The bullish outlook is attributed to the upcoming leisure attractions to draw in families and the young and adventurous.
One of them is the MegaZip Adventure Park which was unveiled on Thursday.
The S$2 million facility consists of Asia’s longest and steepest flying fox ride.
The 450-metre long zip wire takes fliers 72 metres above the sea.
And the company said bookings have already started even before it officially opens its doors.
According to Sentosa, the current number of visitors to the island is evenly spilt between locals and tourists.
Previously, foreigners made up 55 per cent.
All in, the four new leisure attractions on Sentosa cost S$42 million and will be all up and running by 2010.
