Scrutinise future collective sales to protect home owners

Source : Straits Times - 14 Apr 2009

IT WAS with great relief that I read that the minority home owners of Horizon Towers finally won their appeal against the collective sale.

It is about time that developers and market speculators realise that to many of us, our homes, be it a palace or a hut, are not just brick and mortar with a dollar value. They are where we have our life experiences and beautiful shared family memories. They are where we feel safe, secure and comfortable. They are where our spirit belongs.

As such, our homes are priceless and no amount of developers’ dollars can match that.

I hope that the authorities will carefully scrutinise all future collective sales to protect home owners from market speculators and to fine tune the laws and regulations.

Hopefully, many of us will be spared the emotional and financial trauma the the Horizon Tower home owners had to undergo to safeguard their homes.
