Total investment in its Aerospace Park campus surpasses $700m

AERO engine maker Rolls-Royce has announced plans to build a factory at Seletar Aerospace Park, taking its investment there to more than $700 million.

The new plant, which will create 500 jobs, will be the first outside the UK to manufacture hollow titanium wide chord fan blades for aircraft engines. It will be next to Rolls-Royce’s Trent aero engine assembly and test facility.

Rolls-Royce chief executive John Rose said: ‘This latest investment reflects our continuing confidence in Singapore as a place to locate high value-added manufacturing.’

Construction of the Rolls-Royce ‘campus’ at Seletar – which will also include a regional training centre – will start in the first quarter of next year.

Economic Development Board chairman Leo Yip said that moves by Rolls-Royce show how companies can benefit from Singapore’s position as an aerospace hub to drive business.

‘The campus underlines the attractiveness of Seletar as a cradle for new opportunities in the aerospace sector,’ he said.

EDB expects the Rolls-Royce Seletar campus to attract other aerospace companies and suppliers to manufacture components here. This will spin-off business and employment opportunities for other sectors such as logistics and precision engineering.

Phase two of development and infrastructure upgrades by JTC Corporation at the 300 hectare Seletar Aerospace Park is now under way.

This includes the installation of a new fuel farm, utilities and roads, as well as extension works at Seletar Airport.
